Some ISPs and universities block HTTP traffic with either the application/x-bittorrent mime-type or .torrent extension with the excuse that Bittorrent is only used for downloading copyrighted material. Unfortunately for many users, Bittorrent is also the preferred distribution mechanism for many Linux distributions and vidcasts.

We decided to do something about it so we created a small web app to download torrent by proxying them through our server and changing the mime-type and file extension. It’s called txtor and you can find it on http://txtor.dwerg.net.
